Perth District Health Unit
New Health Status Report on Demographic Profile of Perth County
The Perth District Health Unit has released a new health status report on the demographic profile of Perth County residents. This report is part of a new series of health status reports being produced by the Health Unit on a regular basis.
The demographic profile looks at the age, sex, education and income levels of Perth County residents from 2003 to 2010. “This profile includes local data that can be shared with our community and stakeholders to help them plan local programs and services,” says Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health.
Some key findings from the demographic profile include:
- The percentage of Perth County residents aged 12-19 years and the percentage of Perth County residents aged 65 years and older was greater than their Ontario counterparts.
- The percentage of Perth County residents who have completed a post-secondary education was lower compared to Ontarians.
- There was a higher percentage of Perth County females living in low income than Perth County males.
- Seniors were more likely to live in low income than those in other age groups.
Data from the Canadian Community Health Surveys 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 were combined and analyzed for the demographic profile.
