Grey Bruce Health Unit
Longest Day of PLAY
One week until the start of summer and one week until the Longest Day of PLAY. Kick off your summer by getting active for better health.
The PLAY in Bruce Grey physical activity initiative is pleased to announce the second annual Longest Day of PLAY, June 21, 2012. This event marks the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. The Longest Day of PLAY is a community based challenge to encourage Grey Bruce residents to get more active. Trophies will be awarded to the municipalities who log the most number of PLAY hours by percentage of population.
“Grey Bruce can take pride in knowing this event has captured the attention of national groups such as ParticipACTION and CBC’s Live Right Now” said Jason Weppler, Health Promoter at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “We hope this is the first step in moving Grey Bruce to be one of the healthiest areas in Ontario. Currently, about 50% of Grey Bruce residents are active on a regular basis and we would like to see that number climb.”
Trophies to the top three PLAY participants will be distributed on June 25 at the Grey Bruce Health Unit in Owen Sound. This PLAY Celebration will feature keynote speaker Dr. Mark Trembley, world-renowned researcher in healthy living and obesity. This event also marks the five year anniversary of PLAY and end of a two year Trillium grant.
