United Way of Perth-Huron
$1,082,012 Campaign Goal Announced by United Way Perth-Huron

United Way supporters Kicked-Off the United Way Campaign at noon on Monday. Festival Hydro staff member and United Way volunteer, Brad Jezzard, rode the 'cherry picker' to the top of the United Way Thermometer to reveal the 2012 goal.

Dan Mathieson, Mayor of Stratford, encouraged the community and campaign team to work hard because everyone benefits when the United Way reaches their goal. Meanwhile, Campaign Co-Chairs Elizabeth Cooper and Nick Sawicki challenged the community to give as little as $2 per week, the same as it would cost for one cup of coffee. With such a small gift, the United Way can, for example, provide a homeless youth 3 days of emergency care, or a preschooler with special needs would receive 8 hours of additional support from a Program Assistant, or 25 low vision clients would receive reading glasses. Nick also relayed his experience as a “Little Brother” growing up, saying what a difference it made for him and his brother to have a strong Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentor in their life.

Ryan Erb, Executive Director said, “This years' campaign theme is ‘Growing the Seeds of Change.’ It signifies the seeds planted by United Way volunteers, staff and agencies which need regular and significant watering, or the generous donations from Perth and Huron residents, so that we can grow and change our community for the better.”

United Way of Perth-Huron improves lives and builds strong local communities by bringing change where it is needed most. We fund and support social services through 51 agencies, programs and projects including: 24 member agencies, 11 tenant agencies, 8 grant recipients, 6 divisions (umbrella programs we run), 3 projects (new initiatives bridging service gaps), and 20 service supported agencies. One in three Perth-Huron residents utilizes at least one of the associated agencies or programs, making the United Way of Perth Huron important to all.

All are welcome to attend Kick-Off events, request a workplace campaign, or give individually. For more information visit www.perthhuron.unitedway.ca or call 519-271-7730 or 1-877-818-8867.
