Grey Bruce Health Unit
Be Spa Safe
As part of National Infection Control Week, October 15-19, the Grey Bruce Health Unit is launching an awareness campaign Be Spa Safe, to educate the public on how they can protect themselves while enjoying spa services.
The Be Spa Safe guide includes five easy checklists of things to look for before receiving a manicure, pedicure, facial, waxing or hairdressing service. It also gives tips on when to avoid spa services to protect yourself and others.
Most spa operators work hard to make sure their clients are protected, but if proper steps are not taken to clean and disinfect equipment, serious infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, as well as HIV can be spread.
Public Health inspects spas and salons, but the public should also know that those businesses operating out of private homes are not subject to inspection. For further information, call Public Health at 519-376-9420 or 1-800-263-3456, or visit our website at www.publichealthgreybruce.on.ca.
