Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital
Hospital CEO Tom McHugh Announces Resignation, Leaving To Pursue Career In Cancer Care

After more than seven years leading Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital (TDMH) and, more recently, Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll, Chief Executive Officer Tom McHugh has accepted a position with Lakeridge Health as the new Vice President, Cancer and Clinical Services and the new Regional Vice President, Cancer Services for the Central East Regional Cancer Program. Based in Oshawa, Lakeridge serves the Durham Region through its’ four hospital sites and co-ordinates cancer services with partners throughout the Central East Local Health Integration Network (CE LHIN).

“The TDMH Board of Directors regretfully accepted Tom’s resignation as our President and CEO at our meeting this week,” commented Erwin Hawel, TDMH Board Chair. “Tom and his team have done a tremendous job over the years to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare to the community.”

Tom McHugh was hired as the TDMH CEO in 2004 to replace Brenda Butters who was retiring. Highlights from Tom’s tenure at TDMH include the implementation of our satellite dialysis unit, acquisition of a CT Scanner, and the shared CEO initiative with Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll. “He is a real visionary when it comes to an integrated healthcare system and has always worked collaboratively with the medical staff and other healthcare providers to promote positive relationships,” commented Dr. Barry Roth, Chief of Staff. Tom has also been instrumental in ensuring that TDMH continues to play a viable role in the healthcare system, and plans for future redevelopment of the facility are underway.

“We will miss him, on both a professional and personal level however this is an opportunity that he just couldn’t pass up,” explained Erwin Hawel, TDMH Board Chair.
“It was a difficult decision. My family and I have really enjoyed working and living in this community,” commented McHugh.

The effective date for the resignation has not been finalized as yet. The TDMH and Alexandra Hospital Boards will be meeting in the coming weeks to establish a process for hiring a new CEO.
