This Seedy Sunday is Family Friendly

The Local Community Food Centre plays host to its Annual Seedy Sunday this Sunday, February 11th from 11am to 3pm . The event is an opportunity for gardeners to come together and celebrate in anticipation of the upcoming growing season. It will feature seed vendors, small companies that offer environmentally conscious products, and community gardening groups.

Seedy Sunday will also feature a seed exchange at which attendees are invited to bring seeds they saved from last season. The Local’s Seed Exchange volunteers will be on hand to package, label and redistribute the seeds to interested attendees. Seed lovers can pick up free packs of new and interesting seed varieties at the seed exchange table.

Novice and expert gardeners alike are sure to be inspired by three presentations facilitated by experts on topics ranging from beekeeping to growing pollinator and native plants to saving seeds. There will also be hands-on workshops on composting and garden tools sharpening.

Kids will enjoy a range of activities in the greenhouse including seed ball making, planting seeds, face painting and much more. Participants of The Local’s Seed, Feed, and Lead youth cooking program will be serving up build-your-own burritos throughout the day.

The Local Community Food Centre invites all gardeners in Stratford and beyond to join us for what promises to be a fun and educational community event. Proceeds from the $2 suggested donation for entry will go to Seeds of Diversity Canada.
