Fusion Youth Centre
Fusion Youth Centre Nominated for Ontario Trillium Foundation People's Choice Award
Fusion Youth Activity and Technology Centre has been selected from approximately 4,500 organizations across Ontario as one of 18 nominees for the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) People’s Choice Award. Fusion is being recognized for our state-of-the-art recording studio and the opportunities this OTF grant has given our youth in Oxford County.
The People’s Choice Award is the newest of eight prestigious Great Grants Awards presented to Ontario not-for-profit and charitable organizations by OTF. It is through Great Grants that OTF is honouring the best of the best – organizations that show excellence, innovation and leadership by building healthy communities across Ontario. The People’s Choice Award is a new Trillium award this year, recognizing youth-led or youth-serving organizations. It will be presented to one winner and will be determined by online voting February from 13 – 29, 2012.
Individuals are encouraged to support local organizations and the youth they serve. The nominee with the most votes will receive a full day of consulting in Toronto, Ont. with Deloitte, one of Canada’s leading professional service firms. This consulting expertise will be tailored to the organization’s needs; helping the organization and staff build capacity and become more effective. In addition, this is a great opportunity for Fusion to be recognized provincially, further leveraging additional funding, acknowledgement and support, for Fusion’s innovation in youth programs.
Fusion received funding of $150,000 from OTF in 2009 to support the musical and digital recording studio project. Through this funding, youth have been given the opportunity to learn how to use professional equipment, learn how to play a musical instrument and digitally record their music. Fusion’s studio has been innovative and exciting way for youth to discover hidden talents, buried interest and potential careers.
Help to recognize the great impact Fusion and its state-of-the-art recording studio is having on youth in Oxford County by casting your vote. You can vote every hour for each of Fusion’s five submissions, including video, photos and project description; for a total of five votes per hour between February 13 and 29 inclusively. Voting starts Monday February 13, 2012 at 12:00:01 a.m. (midnight) and ends on Wednesday February 29, 2012 at 11:59:59 p.m. EST.

“This is Trillium’s first ever people choice award and we are honoured to be nominated by the volunteer grant review team. This is a great opportunity for Fusion to be recognized provincially and we hope that local community members will show their support by voting and voting often.”
- Jason Smith, Manager, Fusion Youth Activity and Technology Centre
“I love that in the recording studio I get to try a whole bunch of different things and then choose what I really love, plus it’s free! It’s great because after school I can just come to Fusion and relax while I hang out in the Studio.”
- Marlie Morton, youth member, Fusion Youth Activity and Technology Centre
“Fusion’s recording studio is a great program for local youth. It is an opportunity that all youth should be taking advantage of – at least once just to see what it’s all about. In all, Fusion is deserving of this nomination!”
