Service Description: The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number used in the administration of various Canadian government programs * it is required to work in Canada or to receive government benefits * children over 12 years can apply for their own card, and parents/guardians can apply for children under the age of majority

Application: Apply in person at Service Canada Centre or through the mail with application form * original or certified copies of documents must be provided such as Canadian birth or citizenship certificate, permanent resident card or work permit
