Service Description:
|
The Commission administers the Canadian Human Rights Act which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, family status, marital status, disability and pardoned conviction.
Handles complaints (including sexual harassment) against organizations within Canadian federal jurisdiction and tries to end discriminatory policies and practices in employment and in the provision of goods and services, by means of education and public information programs.
Also has a responsibility under the Employment Equity Act to ensure a fully represented workforce of four designated groups: women, visible minorities, people with disabilities and Aboriginal people. It achieves this goal by carrying out compliance audits of employers and service providers under federal jurisdiction.
