Service Description:
|
Adoption in Ontario can be carried out in four different ways, through:
1. One of the Children's Aid Societies in Ontario, generally involving Crown wards of the province, who are available for adoption;
2. Licensed private adoption agencies or individuals licensed by the Ministry, generally involving Ontario infants whose parents have decided that adoption is the best option for them;
3. The courts in the case of the adoption of Ontario children by their relatives or step-parents ("relative" is limited to the child's grandparent, great-uncle, great-aunt, uncle or aunt);
4. Licensed international adoption agencies who are authorized to place children from different countries.

Adoption by a relative: Make an application to an Ontario court under the CFSA. Information about the new Rules and Forms is available from the Internet at www.ontariocourts.on.ca. A licensed private adoption agency or individual or a lawyer can be used.
International adoptions: All persons adopting a child from another country must use the services of an Ontario licensed adoption service provider.
