Wounds - South West

Wounds are injuries to the skin and other soft tissues caused by trauma, a surgical incision or prolonged pressure. Bed sores (also known as decubitus ulcers or pressure ulcers) occur on areas of the skin that are under pressure causing the blood supply to be reduced when a person is bedridden or unable to sense pain. The capacity of a wound to heal depends in part on its depth, as well as on the overall health and nutritional status of the individual.

A wound management guide to choosing proper dressings is posted by London Health Sciences Centre.

The resources on the South West Regional Wound Care Program support the delivery of a standardized level of excellent evidence-based wound care across the South West.
