Perth District Health Unit
Dr. Marla Shapiro to Host HPV Information Session in Stratford
The Perth District Health Unit invites you to join Dr. Marla Shapiro to find out more about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and HPV vaccines on Thursday, September 13, 2012. Dr. Marla Shapiro will be speaking at the Stratford Golf & Country Club. Dr. Shapiro is an award-winning specialist in community medicine. She can also be seen on CTV’s Canada AM and National News.
“HPV is a common virus that can affect both men and women and cause a number of cancers,” says Tara Johnston, Public Health Nurse. “It is estimated that 75% of Canadians will have at least one HPV infection in their lifetime, and can even pass it on to others without having symptoms.”
There is currently no cure for HPV, only prevention and treatment. Research shows that HPV vaccination is effective and beneficial for both men and women.
This presentation is free and open to all ages. Light refreshments will be served.
Join us on Thursday, September 13, 2012, from 5:30 - 7 pm at Stratford Golf & Country Club, 53 Romeo Street North, to learn more about HPV.
HPV vaccines are available at the Health Unit, your doctor’s office, and at school clinics.
