Environmental Public Health Week 2012
The Grey Bruce Health Unit acknowledges Environmental Public Health Week, September 24-29 and the important front-line work by Environmental Public Health Professionals to protect and promote health.
Public Health Inspectors, Environmental Health Officers and allied Public Health Professionals play a vital role in helping to reduce the exposure to environmental hazards and to encourage healthy practices in our community. Safe food, safe water and a broad range of safe and healthy activities we enjoy including, swimming pools and playground safety, are a direct result of the investigations, inspections, enforcement and on-going education carried out by Environmental Health Professionals.
In times of crisis, we call on the expertise of Environmental Public Health Professionals. Their dedication has been demonstrated repeatedly in response to local outbreaks and to provincial, national and international events. Environmental Public Health Professionals provide assistance to deal with these situations while at the same time ensure on-going environmental public health protection work continues.
Last week the Grey Bruce Health Unit co-hosted the 78th annual Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) national conference. “The work of Public Health Inspectors is largely forgotten until there is an outbreak or a significant event, and then they are called upon to protect us,” says conference co-chair Chris Munn, Director of Operations and Program Development at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “The message to the conference was that Public Health Inspectors play a significant role in the link between public’s health and the community and how health is interconnected to so many influences about us.”
