Community Health Fair Teaches Stroke Awareness

Recognizing the signs of a stroke and responding quickly to them are critical for a timely and successful recovery.

To help community members recognize these signs, the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is hosting a Community Health Fair at its Stratford General Hospital site on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 1:30pm-3pm.

Members of the Huron Perth District Stroke Program will provide free screening and information about stroke awareness.

“Participants will also learn what to do during a stroke, and how to understand their personal health risk factors,” said Manager of the Huron Perth District Stroke Program and Stratford Dialysis Unit, Joanna Smorhay. “During the Fair, participants can also get their blood pressure checked and learn about the treatments for stroke.”

The Community Fair is part of Stroke Awareness Month, which raises awareness about stroke, promotes the early recognition of symptoms, and supports research and patient care.

In addition, participants can also learn about diabetes education and community programs at the Fair.

“It’s a great opportunity to empower yourself with knowledge,” said Smorhay.
