Service Description: Inpatient palliative care unit (some private rooms available)

Care by an interdisciplinary team focused on physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs

Reasons for admission:
  • Symptom Control - A temporary admission to improve quality of life with a view to discharge
  • Assessment - A temporary admission to determine an appropriate level of care for patients who are experiencing difficulty being cared for in the community
  • Family Respite - A temporary admission to help family recuperate and continue their caregiving role
  • Terminal Care - A permanent admission for end-of-life care
  • Long Term Palliative - A permanent admission for those whose care needs cannot be met in the community and who meet specific admission criteria

Facilities include a kitchen and lounge for family and patient use * pet visits with some restrictions * grief and bereavement support available

Fees: Beds are classified as complex care beds * long stay patients are subject to chronic co-payment charges

Eligibility / Target Population: Adults 18 years and older with a progressive life threatening illness for which curative treatment has ceased
