South Bruce Grey Health Centre

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) serves a community of approximately 44,000 people, plus 10,000 seasonal residents and 30,000 tourists across four rural hospital sites located in Kincardine, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham. Our staff of approximately 400 are proud to work at these facilities, all of which offer 24-hour emergency care. Other services include acute, coronary care, obstetrical, surgical and full range of diagnostic and ambulatory care services.

Position:  Director of Patient Care

Region:  Grey and Bruce

Description:  The Director, Patient Care has operational accountability for the development, management, evaluation and improvement of high quality patient care services and support within Medicine, Surgery, Emergency, Operating Room, Family Birthing and Ambulatory Care portfolios.
The Director provides leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals within the program fostering an environment of learning and individual growth. Other key responsibilities include budget preparation and monitoring, the development of short and long-term goals and objectives for the program, implementing corporate goals, actively participating on a variety of committees and taskforces, and is part of the Hospital’s Senior Management team.


  • Member of a RHPA e.g. Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor degree in a related field, Masters preferred
  • Experience in clinical management, minimum 7-10 years, proven track record as a health care leader
  • Leadership capabilities with strong interpersonal skills, administrative capabilities and executive presence with pro-active skills in team building, problem solving and decision making
  • Strong project management skills
  • Overall commitment to the quality of patient care and customer service
  • Visionary and creative problem solver, with ability to execute effectively
  • Value-based leadership skills which emphasize creation of strategic vision, innovation, communication, finance, human resource management and development, with demonstrated ability to be a team player
  • Ability to collaborate with other regional healthcare partners and build business relationships with senior executives
  • Progressive management experience
  • Significant experience working with/leading a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in performance improvement using LEAN methodology or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively leading change
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, board of directors, consultants, governments, community groups, medical, general public and all other contacts
  • Effective facilitation, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive work environment
  • Ability to use technology including general proficiency in all MS Office components
  • Available for regular assignment of Hospital Administrator On-Call responsibilities (assigned on a rotating basis to cover evenings and weekends)
  • Current driver’s license and availability of a vehicle for travel
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
