Middlesex-London Health Unit

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is located at the forks of the Thames River in the heart of downtown London, just a short walk from Harris Park, Covent Garden Market and the Budweiser Gardens. London is the geographic centre of Southwestern Ontario, strategically located at the junction of Highways 401 and 402, less than a two-hour drive from Windsor, Detroit, Toronto and Buffalo, and less than an hour from the Grand Bend resort area on the shores of Lake Huron. The City of London, also known as the Forest City, is the home of the Western University and Fanshawe College.

Position:  Public Health Nurse

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has an exciting opportunity for up to 4 casual Public Health Nurses to work on the Vaccine Preventable Disease team in the Environmental Health and Infectious Diseases division at 50 King Street, London. Under the direction of the Manager, Vaccine Preventable Disease, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the Vaccine Preventable Disease team and with communities, groups, families and individuals to enable them to enhance their health and prevent disease.


  • Work in school, community and MLHU clinics to provide immunization services to clients
  • Function within the mission, philosophy and policies of both the Health Unit and the division
  • Utilize evidence-informed practice
  • Conduct screening and assessment of clients’ immunization needs according to medical directives, the Publicly Funded Immunization Schedule for Ontario and Health Unit policies and procedures
  • Provide health education services for individuals, families, groups, the general public, and target groups; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited nursing program (BScN)
  • Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication & presentation skills
  • Proficient technical skills in the areas of documentation, Microsoft Office, and other database software
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s licence and own transportation
  • Knowledge of vaccines and experience with vaccine administration is preferred
  • Preference will be given to those who have completed the Immunization Competency Education Program or equivalent certification
  • Proficiency working in Panorama immunization database is an asset
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in implementing health equity strategies and working with multicultural populations
  • The ability to speak French and/or other languages would be considered an asset
