The Mission of the Middlesex-London Health Unit is to promote and protect the health of our community.

Position:  Public Health Inspector

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Public Health Inspector to work on the Infectious Diseases Control team in the Environmental Health and Infectious Diseases division, and under the direction of the Manager, Infectious Disease Control.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive programs in the community including Infectious Disease Control program work, which may include, but is not limited to personal services settings inspections and outbreak management work
  • Apply expertise in the areas of prevention, enforcement, promotion, protection, education, and research
  • Protect individual and community wellness through the application of a variety of professional and technical skills in health protection, health promotion, and law enforcement activities
  • Provide coverage and client service through the participation in office duty work, evening shift coverage and on-call weekends
  • Participate in other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A four-year Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Health, or equivalent
  • Certification as a Public Health Inspector by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors CIPHI(C) is required
  • Familiarity with the Health Protection and Promotion Act and relevant Regulations and Guidelines as well as the Ontario Public Health Standards and Protocols is a requirement
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to reliable transportation
  • Excellent computer skills in the areas of documentation, MS Office and database software (Hedgehog)
  • Ability to influence and de-escalate complex and/or challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/communication skills
  • CIC credential is preferred
  • Previous experience in Infectious Disease Control program work is considered an asset
  • Communication proficiency (written and verbal) in French and/or any other language is highly desirable


Salary:  To be negotiated
