Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) serves a population of approximately 35,000 residents in the second fastest growing township in Ontario. The hospital’s community includes the Town of Strathroy, a bustling urban centre of 12,500 with a vibrant downtown of quaint shops, restaurants and services. Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Strathroy is home to many London and Sarnia commuters and offers small town life amenities: a pleasant walk to many beautiful parks and nature trails; a strong sense of community; a mix of gracious century homes and modern housing; good schools and shopping. The hospital is only a short drive to London, Sarnia and the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron.

SMGH is a full service family-centred community hospital providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and ambulatory services, as well as both primary and secondary care.

The hospital operates 54 acute care beds along with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and outpatient services. Medical staffing includes a number of active local family physicians, internists, surgeons and specialists. Total staffing for the hospital including full-time and part-time staff is approximately 500.


Position:  Registered Nurse, Medical/Surgical Inpatient

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  The Middlesex Hospital Alliance is seeking a regular, full-time Registered Practical Nurse to practice responsibilities within the Medical and Surgical Inpatient Departments at their Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital site.

The successful candidate will be available for all shifts, including weekends and holiday rotation. This position is available immediately. 

Qualifications: 

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Demonstrates skill, knowledge and ability to practice up to full scope in Ontario
  • Previous (2) year Medical Surgical Nursing within the past 3 years preferred
  • Current BLS-HCP required
  • Experience in the management of complex surgical wounds and PICC lines
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV initiation, assessment and documentation
  • Demonstrated awareness of CNO documentation standards with experience in Electronic Health Record environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical directives and delegated medical acts
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, evidence-based practice and self-directed learning
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and leadership skill
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and collaborate as a team member in a patient family and centered care setting
  • Proficient computer skills in a Windows and Cerner based environment
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and ability to foster change
  • Demonstrated excellence in attendance
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service
  • Understanding and demonstrated use of good body mechanics

If successful, you must provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox) and documentation of two COVID-19 vaccinations. You will also be required to provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing within the previous 12 months.

Salary:  Based on proven experience
