Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance was formed on July 1, 2003 as a partnership between Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. We share a common management structure with one CEO. We have a commitment to partnership and common Mission, Vision and Values. The Alliance Board consists of both hospital boards combined. We look for opportunities to create and share services and programs across our two communities and to look for creative ways to link to our community partners.

The Listowel Memorial Hospital has been providing acute care and complex continuing care services to the residents of North Perth and the hospital’s catchment area since 1919. Our fully accredited hospital offers a wide range of primary and secondary services including 24-hour emergency services. In-patient and out-patient care, specialist clinics and supportive diagnostic services. The Hospital has an active staff of 10 Family Practitioners as well as several consultant staff.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency, Operating Rooms, Diagnostic and Ambulatory Care Units (December 2007)
  • Maternal/Newborn Unit
  • Diabetes/Nutrition Counseling
  • Speech-Language
  • Physiotherapy
  • Breast Health Centre
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.

The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, paediatric, chronic and rehabilitation bed and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency department with 24-hour on-call coverage
  • Rehabilitation department including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology
  • Multiple outpatient specialist clinics held on a regular basis to provide local service
  • Affiliation with London Regional Cancer Centre enabling chemotherapy treatment to be provided locally
  • Many community health related education programs
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.


Position:  Sonographer

Region:  Huron and Perth

Description:  Sonographers are highly skilled professionals who use specialized equipment to create images of structures inside the human body that are used by physicians to make a medical diagnosis. Sonographers require independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the application of diagnostic ultrasound as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to describe details in a precise manner.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends and on-call as required. This position is available immediately.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Radiologist, or other designated consultants with special procedures and seeks assistance from Medical Staff where appropriate
  • Ensures the patients have been properly prepared prior the examination and have been informed about the nature of study. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatments; answering questions.
  • Maintains proper records for Quality Assurance and statistical reporting purposes
  • Recognizes the significance of all structures that are visualized on the images at all times differentiating artifact from normal or pathological process.
  • Records pertinent patient history, documents impression and observations of the examination for the Radiologist
  • Selects proper technical factors to produce optimal examination

Qualifications: 

  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
  • Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (A.R.D.M.S.) and/or Sonography Canada
  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation Imaging Technologists of Ontario
  • Preferred registration with the Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences (OARMS)
  • Completion of required 30 hours of continuing education per triennium to maintain registration
  • Relevant clinical experience is preferred
  • 6 months to 1-year relevant experience
  • Moderate/high degree of physical effort
  • High degree of mental effort and analysis


Salary:  $42.58 - $53.23 per hour

Terms of Employment:  Part-time
