Regional HIV/AIDS Connection

Regional HIV/AIDS Connection (RHAC) is a volunteer driven, non-profit, community-based organization serving London and the six surrounding counties – Perth, Huron, Lambton, Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford. We are community inspired and dedicated to positively impacting the lives of individuals and diverse communities living with, at-risk for or affected by HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C. Our philosophy includes adherence to The Ontario Accord/GIPA (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS), anti-racism/anti-oppression, sex positivity, principles of harm reduction, holistic health and civil society.

Position:  Harm Reduction Worker

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  As a Harm Reduction Worker, you will support London’s Consumption & Treatment Services (Carepoint) and Needle Syringe Program (Counterpoint) by interacting with individuals and diverse communities living with, at-risk for or affected by the challenges associated with HIV/AIDS and HCV to enhance their quality of life.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will facilitate the intake process, support individuals who are using substances and offer appropriate referrals and harm reduction education as necessary to support positive health outcomes for participants.

You will establish rapport with people who use drugs and create an environment in which they can communicate their needs in a safe way to enable better access to the care continuum.

Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of harm reduction principles, substances use, addictions, sexual health, and sex work with an understanding of the societal stigma imposed on the drug using population and its related impacts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with participants and team members across cultures, range of ability, genders, ethnicities and races.
  • A strong knowledge of community resources and social service agencies in London with the ability to identify and understand intersectional factors that impact the health and well-being of diverse communities of people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills and strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to deliver effective conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques.
  • First Aid and CPR, BLS, CPI training considered an asset.
  • A satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).

Salary:  $43,500 - $50,000 annually
