Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) serves a population of approximately 35,000 residents in the second fastest growing township in Ontario. The hospital’s community includes the Town of Strathroy, a bustling urban centre of 12,500 with a vibrant downtown of quaint shops, restaurants and services. Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Strathroy is home to many London and Sarnia commuters and offers small town life amenities: a pleasant walk to many beautiful parks and nature trails; a strong sense of community; a mix of gracious century homes and modern housing; good schools and shopping. The hospital is only a short drive to London, Sarnia and the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron.
SMGH is a full service family-centred community hospital providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and ambulatory services, as well as both primary and secondary care.
The hospital operates 54 acute care beds along with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and outpatient services. Medical staffing includes a number of active local family physicians, internists, surgeons and specialists. Total staffing for the hospital including full-time and part-time staff is approximately 500.
Position: Summer Student Intern, Information Systems Department
Region: London and Middlesex
Description: The Middlesex Hospital Alliance is seeking a Summer Student Intern to practice responsibilities within the Information Systems Department at their Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services site for the duration of approximately 8-12 weeks.
The Information Systems Department is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Summer Student / Co op Intern who is currently enrolled in a college or university program and interested in pursuing a career in Information Technology. This internship provides hands on experience supporting real IT operations, including helpdesk activities, workstation imaging/deployment, and participation in departmental projects.
Please Note: This is a 100% in person, on site position. Applicants must be able to work onsite at either of our locations (Strathroy and/or Newbury). Remote work is not available for this internship.
Responsibilities:
- Provide front line helpdesk support to staff across the organization.
- Assist with imaging, configuring, and deploying workstations.
- Support IT projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and deliver technical solutions.
- Contribute to core IT activities while learning within a supportive and professional environment.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a full-time college / university program.
- Education or experience in Computer Science, Computer Systems Technology, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Windows operating systems.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with managers and end users.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
- Willingness to work onsite at our Strathroy and/or Newbury locations.

- eLearning development skills.
- A valid Class “G” driver’s license and reliable transportation, as some work may be required at both MHA sites.
If successful, you must provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles,
mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox) and proof of 2 COVID-19
vaccinations. You will also be required to provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing within the previous 12 months.
Salary: $17.60- $18.50 per hour
Terms of Employment: Temporary, full-time
