Long-Term Care and Retirement Living

Back to Supports for Me in My Community
  • Long-Term Care Homes
  • Long-term care homes are subsidized facilities that provide nursing and personal care to individuals who are no longer able to live independently in the community. Information about and admission to long-term care homes is provided by the Community Care Access Centre. Each Long-Term Care Home Service Profile listed here includes a video tour.
  • Retirement Residences
  • Residential facilities are designed to enable retired individuals and other elderly people to have a form of independent living, while sharing common interests and access to supportive services. Retirement residence costs vary and not all services may be included in the basic cost. Some retirement residences offer short stay programs when space permits. The Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) is a voluntary, non-profit association that accredits retirement residences in Ontario.
