Announcement
French language children’s services at your fingertips!
May 9, 2005
If you’re looking for French language social and health services for your children,
start by exploring www.thehealthline.ca.
The health services website – a partnership between Community Care Access Centre
of London and Middlesex (CCAC), St. Joseph’s Health Care London, London Health Sciences
Centre, and the Middlesex-London Health Unit -- now has a special directory dedicated
to social and health services for French-speaking children from birth to 18 and
their families living in London.
The directory was conceived by the “Virtual Team,” a group of service providers
and professionals in government ministries and agencies throughout the City who
have come together to improve access to and delivery of health and social services
in French for French-speaking children and their families. Manuella Giuliano, French
Health Services Coordinator and Virtual Team Coordinator, is excited about the directory’s
potential. “This is a big step forward,” she says. “Local francophone families now
have a reliable resource to help them access a wide variety of French-language services.”
Under the Team’s guidance, a bilingual resource coordinator identified records on
thehealthline.ca that are relevant to children then contacted these agencies for
further information on the provision of their services in French.
The result is a comprehensive directory of services for children in London that
help families cope with a range of health and social issues. For example, if you
want to learn more about good parenting techniques or what supports are available
for a child with a disability, there’s a program that can help. Also listed are
services that assist families on
limited incomes, families undergoing separation, and families new to the area that
would like help with adjusting to living in the London community.
Some of the organizations listed provide services in French, and some offer interpreter
services. These listings are presented in French while services not offered in French
are presented in English. The directory also provides detailed information about
each organization offering French language services, such as which department to
contact, if the service is dependent on the availability of staff, and whether printed
materials are available in French. All the service listings will be kept up-to-date
to ensure accuracy.
